We find ourselves in the second
half of 2009 in the most serious
financial recession for many
years. We often forget, with our
preoccupation with clinical
matters, that many of us are
also running businesses.
Unfortunately, many dentists have
had very little training in this field
so I wanted to take the opportunity
this year of addressing this gap.
To reflect this I wanted lectures that
would enable all members to
immediately implement some new
ideas upon return to their practices
the following morning. Our
programme will therefore have a
slightly different feel from the last
few years through an increased
non-clinical dimension.
It is very important to me that
Alpha Omega is not seen as an
elitist organisation only interested
in 'high-end' dentistry. Whilst
some of our members practice in
that environment, many operate
from very ordinary practices on
very ordinary patients.
I wish to express my deep
appreciation to the London
Chapter Council for appointing me
Chairman for this year. Having
been on Council now for several
years I have seen how hard Council
members work on behalf of the
membership. I would like to thank
the trade for their generous
sponsorship without which we
would not be able to provide our
membership with the lecture series
or continue with our very important
charitable endeavours.
Lastly, but certainly not least,
I must thank our outgoing
Chairman, Eddie Scher. Eddie has
worked ceaselessly to provide
what was an outstanding year. We
had fascinating lectures, excellent
attendance, good food, interesting
trade stands and that unique
Alpha Omega camaraderie –
everything that makes AO the
number one dental organisation.
Fraternally
Adrian Mullish.
