The perio-ortho interrelationship is becoming increasingly popular as patients and
clinicians alike realise the need and benefits of multidisciplinary treatment when
required. It is however important that the disciplines work together in a synergistic
way and understand how they benefit each other and how they can avoid negatively
affecting or disturbing each other's outcome.
Learning Objectives
- To expose dentists to the effect of orthodontic treatment on the severity of
periodontitis, particularly Aggressive Periodontitis and present guidelines of a
follow-up protocol to minimise or prevent periodontal deterioration.
- To expose dentists to the effect of orthodontic treatment on gingival recession onset/ progression.
- Proposed solutions and sequence of therapy when such problems are diagnosed.
Biography
Professor Ayala Stabholz, DMD
Professor Ayala Stabholz graduated from the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Dental
Medicine founded by the Alpha Omega Fraternity in 1980. In 1985 she completed the graduate
program in Periodontics at the same university and was appointed head of dental hygiene
program at the dental school. In 1990 she spent a sabbatical year as a visiting associate
professor at the department of Periodontology, Loma Linda University Dental School, USA where
she taught at the graduate and undergraduate programs and conducted research projects.
She is currently an Associate Professor at the department of Periodontology in Jerusalem and is
in charge of the undergraduate curriculum in periodontics at the dental faculty.
Biography
Dr. Stella Chaushu
Dr. Stella Chaushu is Associate Professor and Chairperson of Department of Orthodontics in
Jerusalem, Israel. She is the coordinator of three different fields in the department: adult
orthodontics, orthodontic treatment for impacted teeth and treatment of Special Needs children.
The results of her clinical and research activities have been published in over 70 articles in
international refereed journals and in 6 chapters in books.
