Course Outline
This lecture will provide an interesting
overview of Periodontics. It will explore
new concepts in diagnosing and treating
Periodontitis including new methods
utilising a structured approach which
have been shown to better predict
prognosis and risk in Periodontitis. The
lecture will demonstrate relatively simple
ways for the practitioner to best
determine predicted outcomes of
disease. Simple methods to produce
complete clinical records that ensure
compliance with GDC regulations will be
demonstrated. Lasers in periodontics and
their comparison to conventional
treatments will be discussed.
Aesthetic periodontal procedures
will be demonstrated.
Education Objectives
Upon completion of the lecture the attendee should
- Have a good understanding of risk
factors for Periodontitis and risk factors
affecting the response to treatment of
Periodontitis.
- Be aware of Periodontitis as a risk
marker and possible risk factor for
systemic disease and be able to
differentiate between the two.
- Understand the rationale for
visual debridement.
- Understand the term Aesthetic
Periodontics and be familiar with some
of the indications for these procedures.
